Safely Home and London Terror

Hello all.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have made it back to Cincinnati safely. The ride home was long. On the Eastern side of Charleston, WV, I ran into some traffic. The road I was travelling, 64-West, was closed because of an accident. This, however, was no normal accident. It involved about 15 cars, three of which were tractor-trailers. One of the tractor trailers was transporting live animals. This made things worse. The sensitive methods for removing these animals was the reason for the road's closure. To give you an idea of how difficult this must have been, officials said that the road would be closed for a total of 3 to 5 hours.

To be sure, my travelling was not the only news of the day. Terror attacks have ripped through London, England. Experts have said that these attacks were inevitable. No matter how much you believe the inevitability of terror, the actual event is quite traumatizing. My heart breaks for the families and loved ones of those who were lost or injured in the attacks.

The terror attacks do seem to have refocused America's wondering thoughts. Our main interests were drifting dangerously towards the trivial -- Michael Jackson, car chases in California and Tom Cruise. Perhaps in the wake of this terrible incident, public opinion will force the administration to focus on the actual war on terror. This war, unlike the one we are fighting in Iraq, would actually benefit the citizens of America, and the world, by keeping innocent people from being affected by terror attacks ever again.

No matter what your political position, these attacks force us all to remember that life is short. It forces us all to think about the way we leave each other's company. Do we hang up the phone annoyed? Do we mutter under our breath when we see someone we don't want to talk to? Do we fail to respond to a friend's email because its too much work?

What if events like the ones from today keep us from remedying the ways that we have taken each other for granted? These are some of the questions that haunt me daily. This is obviously bad for my sleep patterns, but I hope that concentrating on these questions will help me become the best friend, son, boyfriend, and friend that I can be.
